Past winner Caroline Berry and former British senior champion Felicity Christine came through nailbiters to make their way into the last eight at the English senior women’s championship at South Staffordshire.
Both games went into extra time, with Berry (image © Leaderboard Photography) defeating defending champion Cath Rawthore on the 19th. Christine went to the 21st before ending the challenge of host club member Annette Deeley.
Rawthore birdied the 18th to extend her game, but she took three from the edge of the 19th green which ended her challenge.
Behind them, Deeley was battling back from two down after 15, encouraged by a crowd of club supporters. She won the 16th and also birdied the 18th to get back on level terms with Christine.
The pair halved the 19th and 20th in par before the match ended on the 21st, where Christine holed a treacherous downhill four-foot putt to win.
At the other end of the spectrum, Aileen Greenfield beat Sandy Catford 7/6, while Lulu Housman defeated Janet Melville 6/5.
In the other games Jo Shorrocks beat Nicola Tebbutt 4/2, Julie Brown beat Lindsey Shaw 4/3, Jackie Foster beat Julia Gallagher 4/3 and Fiona
Edmond beat Helen Lowe 2/1.
