Estonia’s Joonas Turba returned to the lead in the McGregor Trophy this morning when the wind returned to Burnham and Berrow after two days of calm.
Turba, who is celebrating his 16th birthday today, shot three-over 74 in demanding conditions and is two-under for the championship.
He’s just a stroke ahead of Max Hopkins (Bishops Stortford) who scored an impressive one-under 70 in the winds. Hopkins (image © Leaderboard Photography) went out in level par, balancing an eagle and a birdie with three bogeys, and came home in one-under.
Hopkins is two ahead of James Reed (Exeter) who scored 74, while overnight leader George Young (West Malling) slipped back to two-over after struggling on the way out and eventually signing for 79.
Only one other player beat par this morning. Conor Gough (Stoke Park), who won the U14 Reid Trophy last year, had two birdies in his last three holes as he headed towards his 70.
