The trio of Sarah-Jane Boyd, Gabriella Cowley and Alex Peters will represent England Golf in the Nations Cup at this weekend’s Welsh open stroke play championship. The reserve is Charlotte Thompson.
The 54-hole championship takes place at The Vale on Saturday and Sunday, 4 and 5 May. The best two scores from three in each round will count towards the team award.
Sarah-Jane Boyd, 21, of Truro, Cornwall, (image © Leaderboard Photography) won the 2012 British women’s stroke play championship and, as a result, secured her place in this year’s Ricoh Women’s British Open over the Old Course at St Andrews. Last year she also won the England Golf South West women’s championship and her third Cornwall ladies’ title.
Gabriella Cowley, 17, of Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire, was in the winning England teams at last year’s girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals. During 2012 she also won the Scottish and the North of England U16 championships and was in the winning Essex team at the 2012 County Finals. Gabriella, a past English U15 titleholder, was third in the R&A Junior Open.
Alex Peters, 19, of Notts Ladies’, is the English women’s stroke play champion and was in England’s successful team at the 2012 women’s Home Internationals. Last season she also won the Independent Schools’ championship, the Nottinghamshire ladies’ title and shared the Porters Park Centenary Cup. Alex has played for England since she was 14.
Charlotte Thompson, 20 of Channels, Essex, qualified for the Ricoh British Women’s Open last year, was runner-up in the English stroke play, third in the English mid-amateur and in the winning Essex team at County Finals. This year she reached the match play stages of the French Lady Junior Championship.
