Golf Week opened with a bang on Monday with the tough Hotchkin Course at Woodhall Spa Golf Club presenting a stern challenge to the contenders of the English Junior Champion Club.
However, the difficult course didn’t stop seven players from scoring more than 36 points on day one, including two members of the Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club of Lancashire who lead the way with 75 points.
The trio of Ellis Willmott, Bradley Smith and George Carrington are the team to catch after day one in Lincolnshire, helped by a pair of birdies from Willmott and Smith on the 18th that propelled the team to the top of the leaderboard.
Following closely behind are Cornwall’s Trevose Golf and Country Club team, consisting of Liam Wilson. Thomas Stephens and Matthew Tremain who scored 73 points, and BB&O’s Calcot Park who also scored 73 between the team of Harry West, Henry Drake and Drew Rolfe.
There are still seven teams within five points of Southport & Ainsdale meaning there is plenty to play for in Tuesday’s final round to see who can emulate the 2018 winners Horsehay Village from Shropshire and Herefordshire
Leaderboard after day one:
- Lancashire 75pts
- Cornwall 73pts
- BB&O 73pts
- Gloucestershire 72pts
- Dorset 71pts
