Senior men get green light for Euro challenge

England’s senior men will have the opportunity to add a European title to their Home International crown early next month.

With Slovakia established on the green list for journeys from the UK, the squad will, after all, take their place at the Sedin Golf Resort for the European Senior Men’s Team Championship from 31 August-4 September.

Initially, the decision had been taken not to make the trip due to the uncertainty around foreign travel.

Four members of the six-strong squad for this event were part of the joint men’s and women’s senior squad which won the Home International title at Woodhall Spa earlier this month.

Rupert Kellock, Trevor Foster, Steve Jensen and Ian Attoe (main image) will be joined for this trip by Richard Jones (pictured below) and Stephen East.

Captain Alan Mew has named Paul Wharton as first reserve for the Europeans.

A total of 23 teams from across Europe have registered for the event including defending champions Denmark.

England has won the title on three occasions with the last victory coming in 2019 at Rungsted Golf Club in Denmark.

Three of this year’s squad – Attoe, Kellock and Jones – also played a part in the success two years ago.
