English teenager Sana Tufail has just notched up her third win of 2012 and is closing in on the title of number one woman amateur in the United Arab Emirates.
Sana’s winning streak has put her at the top of the Emirates women’s order of merit with just three events to be played. A top 10 finish at any of them will clinch the title for her.
The 15-year-old, who lives in Abu Dhabi and is a member of Woking Ladies’ in Surrey, was runner-up in the table last year.
This season she’s won a total of seven ladies’ opens which all count towards the order or merit title. Sana’s latest success, and third win of 2012, came at the Els Club in Dubai, where she shot one-over 73.
Last December she became the youngest player to compete in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, alongside the world’s best women professionals. She shot a first-round 73 and was subsequently voted Sportsperson of the Year by readers of a daily sports newspaper in Abu Dhabi.
Sana, who makes an annual summer golfing trip to England, was 12th in the 2011 English girls’ U15 championship.
