Rainbow Laces: Backing Birmingham’s bid for 2024 Euro Games

England Golf is supporting Pride Sports as the lead bidder and Girls in Golf Society (GIGS) as golf organiser in the battle to host the 2024 Euro Games in Birmingham.

Birmingham is one of three cities competing to host the games in three years’ time and an announcement on the winning bid is due at the end of this month.

The games are staged by the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation and present a fantastic opportunity to showcase not only sporting achievement, but also the many benefits of being active.

For England Golf it is a further opportunity to show how inclusive and welcoming the game can be and to utilise our existing volunteers to support the running of the tournament and create connections within Birmingham to promote golf to the LGBTQ+ community.

The bid presentation was made on the November 28 and all our fingers are crossed for a positive result when the winning host city is named on December 28.

In the build up to the games – no matter the host venue – we will continue to work with Girls in Golf Society to promote the events they put on to welcome more women to the game.

Recently GIGS held successful events at Stonebridge Golf Club and Formby Hall Golf Club welcoming new participants.
