Hertfordshire’s Laurie Owen shot 10-under par to finish joint runner-up in the Portuguese International Amateur Championship at Montado.
The 26-year-old from Letchworth Golf Club (pictured) led an impressive English performance, with national teams scoring a one-two in the Nations Cup.
Owen was in the mix throughout with rounds of 68 70 69 71, and commented afterwards on Twitter: “What a week! Very proud of what I achieved this week competing in Portuguese amateur.
“Great start to the season and has motivated me even more to keep getting better.”
He was one of six English players in the top ten. Bailey Gill (Lindrick) tied 5th on eight-under while another Yorkshireman, Ben Schmidt (Rotherham), shared seventh place, on seven-under, with Matty Lamb (Hexham).
A further shot back was yet another Yorkshire player, Charlie Thornton (Fulford), who held the first round lead after his opening 66. He shared 10th place with Dan Brown (Littlestone).
The championship was won by 16-year-old Portuguese player, Daniel da Costa Rodrigues, who was 13-under par.
