Nottinghamshire’s Janet Melville continued her fine run of form when she scored her fourth win in the 36-hole senior English women’s midlands regional tournament at Chesterfield Golf Club.

Green staff were on squeegee duty on the last three holes to keep the greens playable after hours of persistent rain. The conditions, coupled with the effects of the wet summer, led to the challenging combination of lush fairways, no run and tough rough – together with fast tricky greens.
Janet, from Sherwood Forest, set up her win on the first day when, in fine conditions, she returned a four-over par 77. It gave her a one-shot lead over today’s playing partner, Lindsey Shaw, which proved crucial after they returned matching scores in the second round. Janet previously won this event in 2010.
Three players shared third place: Carol Wild of Notts’ Ladies, Caron Harrison of Sherwood Forest and Gillian Curley of Northamptonshire County.
