Girl international Elizabeth Mallett underlined her fine form when she scored a six-shot win in the Midlands South regional women’s championship at The Warwickshire Golf and Country Club.
Elizabeth, who was joint top qualifier at the European girls’ team championship, also won the junior category. In addition, together with her sister, Victoria, and Lisa Barton (Brandon Wood), she won the team shield for Warwickshire. The Malletts both play at Sutton Coldfield Ladies’.
The championship runner-up was Lucy Walton of The Worcestershire. She also returned the best net score of the championship (72+70=142) but the voucher was awarded to Charlotte West (Harewood Downs, 72+75=147). Earlier this season Lucy became possibly the youngest-ever county champion – at the age of 12.
The intermediate category, for players aged 18-25, was won by Rebecca Gee (Wellingborough).
The championship attracted entries from all six counties in the England Golf Midland South region: Berkshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Worcestershire & Herefordshire.
Competitors were able to play in mainly dry conditions but there had been several days of very heavy rain before the event.
