England’s men’s squad will have to wait until September to defend their Home International crown after The R&A postponed the event originally scheduled for April.
In light of the current restrictions on travel and availability of accommodation, the event will now be played between 15-17 September at a venue yet to be decided.
Royal Dornoch in Scotland was due to stage the Home International series between 14-16 April.
The Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship has also been moved back from its April date and will now take place from 21-23 October. Enville Golf Club in Staffordshire will remain as the host club.
In making the announcement, Phil Anderton, Chief Development Officer at The R&A, said, “There is still a degree of uncertainty as to when the current health and safety measures throughout Great Britain and Ireland will be eased and so we have decided to reschedule both events until later this year when hopefully the situation with the pandemic has improved.”
News of the postponement will come as a setback to the Walker Cup selectors who had hoped to use the event to assess the leading contenders ahead of naming a final squad for the clash with the USA in Florida in May.
