England Golf is proud to announce its support for Rainbow Laces Day 2020 as we continue to stand against discrimination and promote our game as a modern and welcoming sport for all.
On Wednesday 9 December, the sporting world will be lit up by another colourful display of Rainbow Laces to show solidarity with the LGBT community.
Over 1 million pairs of Rainbow Laces have been sold since 2013 helping to spread awareness about LGBT people and the ongoing drive to ensure sport is a safe haven for all participants.
England Golf is committed to making sure sport is everyone’s game.
Look out for members of the LGBT golfing community telling us their stories about playing the game in the days ahead.
Recent surveys have shown that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge effect on the LGBT community – many of whom are experiencing isolation and poor mental health.
With golf courses now open again after the second national lockdown, it is more important than ever to encourage widespread participation not only for the obvious physical benefits playing golf provides, but also the impact on people’s mental well-being.
Sport in general and the game of golf in particular can help bring our communities together and, whether watching or taking part, it makes our lives richer for the experience.
This year England Golf will be supporting the online campaign which aims to improve the statistic which shows four in 10 LGBT people think that sport is not welcoming for them.
Around 11% of LGBT people have said they felt discriminated against while exercising or playing sport in the last year rising to 28% of trans-people.
Rainbow Laces, though, is playing its part to raise awareness with 56% of sports fans who previously saw the campaign agreeing that more needs to be done to integrate the LGBT community in sport.

You can also help inform us for the future by taking part in an England Golf survey.
This will allow us to gauge the feeling among the LGBT community on key areas to do with golf.
