Girl international Louisa Brunt came through a stop-start day to score five-under par over 36 holes and win the Pleasington Putter by a shot.
Thunderstorms delayed the start of play at Pleasington Golf Club in Lancashire by 90 minutes – and then caused another 30 minute delay as the players reached the end of the first round.
Despite the interruptions the scoring was excellent. Brunt (Royal Birkdale) scored 71 72 to finish one ahead of 14-year-old Annabell Fuller (Roehampton, 73 71). Brunt, 17, represented England in the European girls’ team championship and both players will be in the England team at next week’s Girls’ Home Internationals.
Gemma Clewes (Delamere Forest), who will play for England in the Women’s Home Internationals, was third (76 72) on countback from Bethany Garton (Royal Lytham, 70 78)
Emily Brennan (Trentham) won the handicap prize, ahead of Olivia Hamilton (Cleckheaton) and Alex Forrest (Pleasington).
