Alison Knowles and Olivia Winning

Championship leaders Yorkshire had the upper hand in this morning’s foursomes against Buckinghamshire at women’s County Finals at Waterlooville in Hampshire

The Northerners had two comfortable wins thanks to the pairings of England international Olivia Winning and Alison Knowles (image copyright Leaderboard Photography); and to Curtis Cup player Rochelle Morris and Megan Garland.

But Buckinghamshire kept in touch with a 2up win by Georgina Bowers and Alice Koslowski.

Gloucestershire, currently in second place and chasing Yorkshire, set off with great determination this morning and beat Surrey 3-0.

Becky Gibbs and Ebonie Lewis took the first point 6/4, while Bethan Popel and Alex Saunders had another big win 5/3. But the pairing of Alex Giles and Claudia Ovens had to go to the 18th to edge past their opponents 1 up.

Norfolk and Staffordshire are both seeking their first outright win of the week, having each halved one and lost one of their earlier matches.

This morning Staffordshire took the advantage, winning the foursomes 2-1. Their points were scored – both by the margin of 3/2 – by Emily Brennan and Gina Wilkie and by Olivia Raybould and Julia Gaunt. But Ellie Brown and Jo Herd gave Norfolk a boost with their 5/4 win.
