Hertfordshire champion Jackie Foster is the new English Senior Women’s County Champion of Champions following an eight-shot victory at Woodhall Spa Golf Club on Sunday.
Foster is the third winner of the competition after Alison Kelly and Amanda Mayne after carding rounds of 73 and 72 to claim an impressive win in the Lincolnshire sunshine on one-over par 145.
“It feels absolutely amazing, I’m really thrilled,” Foster said. “I found Saturday’s round quite tricky to keep going so I knew Sunday’s one was going to be difficult as well and it wasn’t great to start with a bogey but I had to just keep going.
“It was starting to get a bit stressful on the back nine on Sunday but it was just a case of staying calm really. On the 14th hole on Sunday I had to go back to the tee because I hit my ball left into the trees but I managed to get away with a bogey and from there I felt I played well and thankfully it was enough to get the win!”
The Hertfordshire golfer finished eight shots clear of her nearest rival Kim Morris (Kent) who shot rounds of 76 and 77 to grab second place with 153 while Dorset’s Jane Southcombe’s opening round of 74 put her in contention but a round of 80 on Sunday saw her finish in third place on 154.
Helen Lowe (Leicestershire and Rutland), Aileen Greenfield (Sussex) and Karen Young (Norfolk) all shot 155 across the two days to ensure they would finish joint-fourth.
