Ryan Evans continued his fine form from the Brabazon Trophy by spearheading England to No.1 seeds after the qualifying stage of the European Men’s Team Championships in Finland.
The 27 year old from Northamptonshire carded a second round 65 to go with his opening 68 for a tally of 133, 11 under par, and top spot in the individual ranking. Evans (image © Leaderboard Photography) had eight birdies in his 65, four in the closing five holes, and 13 overall from his two rounds.
With Toby Tree and Brabazon Trophy winner Ben Stow finishing on three-under-par 141, backed by 142 from Ashley Chesters and 143 from Jordan Smith, England finished as leaders on 700. Spain was second on 703 with Sweden third four shots further back.
It means defending champions England face eight seeds Switzerland today in the quarter finals while Spain meet France, Sweden play sixth placed Scotland and Ireland take on Germany.
Meanwhile in the European Boys Team Championships in Oslo, England finished in fourth place after the stroke play qualifying and play Spain today in the quarter finals.
Haydn McCullen and Bradley Moore were the highest placed England players in joint fifth place on 140, four under par, McCullen returning rounds of 69 and 71 and Moore 68 and 72. Jamie Dick shot 74 and 70 for 144 and equal 17th place, while the other qualifying scorers were Ashton Turner on 145 and Marco Penge on 149.
In the other quarter finals, leading qualifiers Italy meet Wales, Sweden take on Denmark and Scotland face Norway.
