A spectacular 7-1 victory in the second day singles enabled England to complete a clean sweep on their autumn under 16 internationals against the other home countries.
Having beaten Wales 17½ – 2½ and Scotland 16-9, the English team arrived at Delamere Forest in confident mood and they came out on top 2.5 – 1.5 in the opening series of foursomes.
However, the Irish turned the tables in the second series, England gaining just a half from the four games which saw them start the second day’s eight singles trailing 5-3.
But there was a sting in the tail with the English boys romping home 7-1 for a final scoreline of 10-6.
Oliver Clarke from Lancashire and Nottinghamshire’s Dan O’Laughlin finished with unbeaten records from their three games while English under 14 champion Harry Bigham, Coby Cartwright and Alex Fitzpatrick also finished with two points each.
The occasion also marked John Jacobs’ final match as England under 16 boys coach and he was presented with a memento by Nick Over, the England under 16 manager. Over is pictured left with Jacobs
