England made a successful start to the Men’s Home Internationals when the beat Wales 12-3 in the opening round of this year’s round robin competition at Lahinch on the west coast of Ireland.

Tom Sloman (pictured) and Tom Plumb continued their undefeated run for England when they beat Ben Chamberlain and Lewys Sanges by two holes in the opening foursomes and a further victory by Ben Jones and Jack Burnage and a halve from Callum Farr and Ben Schmidt coupled by defeats for Matty Lamb and Ben Hutchinson and Bailey Gill and Joshua McMahon saw them go into lunch tied for the lead at 2½ – 2 ½.

The singles proved to be considerably more one-sided. Harry Hall set the ball rolling for England when he beat Chamberlain 4 & 3 in the top match and further wins by Plumb, Burnage, Jones, Lamb, Hutchinson, Gill, McMahon and Schmidt plus a halve for Farr against Gaelen Trew saw them take the series 9 ½ -1/2.

England now play hosts Ireland who lost 8 ½ – 6 ½ to Scotland on the opening day.
