England has named a six-strong team for the upcoming Under-16 Girls’ international match against Ireland.
Rafiah Banday (Royal Mid Surrey GC, Surrey), Libby Bell (Gosforth Park Ladies GC, Northumberland), Louise Burke (Broadstone GC, Dorset) Lydia Cryer (Nelson GC, Lancashire), Rachel Gourley (Arcot Hall GC, Northumberland) and Lottie Woad (Farnham GC, Surrey – pictured above) have all earned the nod from the selectors.
The event will take place on October 12 -13 at Hunstanton Golf Club in Norfolk – a fine championship venue which has previously hosted both the Brabazon and English Amateur Championship.
Chair of selectors and Women’s Performance Manager Becca Hembrough is delighted to gather such a strong group of girls together for a challenge match that will expose them to a higher level of competition.
“The girls all have some experience of international matches with Lydia, Louise, Lottie and Rachel representing England against Switzerland as recently as August,” said Hembrough.
“But for all the girls the more times you are exposed to international competition the better it will be for their development.
“As the girls build towards competing at European level and in Home Internationals this is another important step on that pathway.”
The format for the match will be two rounds of foursomes on day one and singles on day two.
The England Boys’ team to take part in the challenge match against their Irish counterparts will be announced next week.
Last year’s event took place at Limerick GC in Ireland with England running out 15.5-8.5 winners.
