Elwyn Ellis – a tribute to our past president

England Golf reports with sadness that Elwyn Ellis, one of our past presidents, has passed away. He was 94.

Elwyn, who was also past president of Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs, became our president in 2010 and served that office with great distinction.

He will be sorely missed by his friends and former colleagues at England Golf and throughout the English golfing community.

Born in Stockport in 1927, Elwyn spent most of his early years in Lytham St Anne’s and learned to play golf at Lytham Green Drive.

His business career in the textile industry took him to Manchester and in 1956 he joined Prestbury Golf Club. Elwyn was proud to be named club captain in 1979 and president in 1980.

In recognition of his service to Prestbury, the club presented him with honorary life membership.

In addition to enjoying his golf at Prestbury, Elwyn was also a member of Royal Lytham and St Anne’s and Royal Dornoch.

Everyone at England Golf would like to offer sincere condolences to Elwyn’s family and friends at this sad time.
