East Brighton’s Crompton nets Women’s Medal Final title

Holly Crompton holds up her trophy

Twenty-year-old Holly Crompton of East Brighton Golf Club won the Women’s Medal Final by a single stroke after a grandstand finish.

The 5 handicapper recorded her only birdie of the day on the 18th to finish on 77 (level par) – securing the title ahead of three other players who all tied on a handicap-adjusted score of +1.

Her consistency was key to success, hitting 13 greens in regulation (GIR) to keep in contention throughout the day. Her careful hitting may have been spurred on by her experience in the practice round on Wednesday, her only previous visit to the course, which was played in torrential rain.

It was her first appearance at the national final after qualifying through the Order of Merit system at East Brighton GC before finishing 9th in the regional final at Guildford GC.

She credited the support of her family after her success: “Getting the win was a great surprise, and I’m just thankful to my dad for caddying for me.”

Her victory in Lincolnshire places her as the female English Handicap Golfer of the Year.
