England’s U16s scored a double success when they romped home against Spain in their annual mixed international and also beat Switzerland in a new girls’ match.
Both fixtures were played at Heswall, Cheshire, as a curtain-raiser to the North of England U16 stroke play championship, which starts today.
The mixed England team which took on Spain had an overwhelming 10-2 win. The boys outclassed their opponents, achieving a complete whitewash and not one of their games went past the 16th. The girls lost just one foursomes and one singles.
Lancashire’s Hollie Muse (pictured © Leaderboard Photography) and Herman Loubser, from the Isle of Man, had the biggest winning margins, each recording a 6/5 win in their singles. There was plenty of sub-par golf, for example Hollie was four-under par when she finished; while the Spanish singles winner was seven-under after 10.
The new girls’ match against Switzerland also resulted in a win for England, who were an aggregate two holes up after the four 18-hole games were completed.
Eloise Healey (West Lancashire) had a comfortable win and Victoria Mallett (Sutton Coldfield Ladies’) played well to secure her victory on the last. Chloe Howard (Boringdon Park) was up all the way in her match, while Harriet Allsebrook (Shifnal) lost to a strong player.
