Yorkshire and Buckinghamshire both pulled off a clean sweep in their second day foursomes at women’s County Finals at Waterlooville in Hampshire.
In the other match, Gloucestershire will take an advantage into the singles, having won the foursomes against Norfolk 2-1 in hot sunshine.
County champion Becky Gibbs and her partner Ebonie Lewis (image © Leaderboard Photography) sped off to a 6/5 win, helped by Lewis’s five-wood shot to the 12th green which came to rest a couple of inches from the cup.
But the other two games went the distance. Bethan Popel and Alex Saunders gave Gloucestershire their second point with a 2up win. Norfolk teenagers Jasmine Campbell and Chloe Rowswell played their way back from a one-hole deficit after 13 to win on the last, also by 2up, after Rowswell’s running chip finished close to the hole.
In Yorkshire’s match against Surrey, their top pair Alison Knowles and Olivia Winning got off to a quick start and steadily increased their lead until signing off 6/4. But the Northern team’s other two pairs were taken to the last green, where both won 1up.
County captain Megan Garland and Curtis Cup player Rochelle Morris were first to finish, while Megan Clarke and Hannah Holden, who were all square after 17, followed them in with another win.
Buckinghamshire lost heavily yesterday but clearly put it behind them as they beat Staffordshire 3-0. Again they were set on their way by a big win, in this case from Denise Goodacre and Daisy Kennedy (6/5). Megan Dennis and Thalia Kirby added their point with a 3/2 success while Georgina Bowers and Alice Kozlowski won 2up.
