Cornwall golfers Emily Toy and Megan Giles set today’s first round pace in the English Women’s Amateur Championship with scores of two-under 70 on the West course at Saunton, Devon.

Toy, an England international from Carlyon Bay and Giles, the Cornwall women’s champion from St Mellion, head a high-quality leaderboard.

Snapping at their heels on one-under are the internationals Bel Wardle (Prestbury, Cheshire) and Lily May Humphreys (Stoke by Nayland, Essex), who has recently won Welsh and Irish stroke play titles. Read more below

After tomorrow’s second round the leading 32 players will contest the match play stages. If necessary a preliminary round will be played to determine the 32 qualifiers.
