Brimsham Green School from Gloucestershire, proudly represented by Toby Janes, Luke Hodge and Harry Warren, won the 2022 English Schools Team Championship in style at Woodhall Spa.
The trio posted an impressive combined Stableford score of 77 to claim the national title by two points from their nearest challengers around the Bracken course in windy conditions.
The runners-up were Gravesend Grammar School who finished on 75 points ahead of Plantsbrook High School in third. However, no-one could match the firepower of Brimsham Green who topped the leaderboard despite a nerve-wracking wait after their early tee time.
“It feels good [to win]. It was a very nervous wait for us because there were a lot of good players still out on the course when we finished,” admitted Warren.
He also had high praise for the condition of the Bracken Course, testament to the excellent work of the greens staff at Woodhall Spa, the home of England Golf and the National Golf Centre.
“The greens were rolling nicely and the fairways were bouncing so the course was in great condition,” he added.
Warren top scored for the team with 42 points. His tally was added to Hodge’s total, whilst Janes’ points were discounted under the rules of the competition which allow for the two best scores out of the three to go forward.
Brimsham Green’s Warren enjoyed a fantastic day, winning both the team and individual events. In the individual, he finished narrowly ahead of Matthew Jones of St George’s, Harpenden and Ed Barron-Holden from Kirbie Kendall School.
