England Golf is seeking talented youngsters from across the country to form 30 regional coaching squads for training over the winter months of 2014/15.

Young golfers should apply now for the boys’ and girls’ U16 regional coaching programme and the mixed U18 AASE regional coaching squads.

If their initial application is successful, they will be invited to one of the regional squad selection weekends in September which will include skills tests, player profiling and on-course ability assessment.

Players selected for the squads will receive 20 days of squad coaching, individual sessions and match days plus an equivalent of 10 days of physical development. This mirrors the pattern of the successful 2013/14 coaching programme.

“The regional squad structure continues to go from strength to strength” commented Stephen Burnett, Performance Manager for the England Golf men’s programme.

“The mix of squad time, individual coaching and then the opportunity to compete against neighbouring regions has been very well received. Add to that the opportunity to further their physical training and England Golf is providing a sound foundation for the development of our young players.”

Nigel Edwards, England Golf’s Performance Director, added: “We aim to give our talented young players the best golf development experience available.

“In return, we expect the players to commit themselves to a programme of golf coaching and physical training that will set them up for life. By continuing our coaching commitment with this age group, we are giving England Golf the best chance of success at U18, men’s and women’s and ultimately touring professional level in the future.”

“There is no guarantee that the current best players at these age groups will automatically gain a squad place, they will have to work for it and demonstrate their desire,” stated Edwards.

“Current performance levels are a key factor but they will have to be matched and exceeded by work ethic, commitment and their attitude to improving. The player with more hunger and thirst for improvement is always likely to come out the more proficient golfer in the long run.”

The deadline for U16 Regional Squad applications is Friday 22nd August 2014.

The deadline for the U18 AASE Regional Squad applications is Friday 29th August 2014 and requires a two year commitment from potential applicants.
