Ace play helps Paula to Chase Her Dream

Paula Wendleken CYD Rookery

A hole-in-one has helped Essex golfer Paula Wendleken to chase her dream of an outing with a top European Tour player.

Paula headed the ten successful qualifiers at the East region final of Bridgestone’s Chase Your Dream Trophy, run in partnership with England Golf.

They triumphed at Rookery Park, Suffolk, where an army of club volunteers turned out to help with the running of the event.

Paula (Abridge) had her ace – her first – on the 9th and it helped her to a net score of five-under par 69. The other qualifiers are: Ashlee Tyrrell (Rayleigh, Essex), Emma Norman (March, Cambs & Hunts), Claire Vaughan (Frinton, Essex), Mariette Robbertse (Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk), Luca Thompson Pavenham Park, Bedfordshire), Phyllis Stevens (Knebworth, Hertfordshire), Dawn Futter (Great Yarmouth & Caister, Norfolk), Lynette Mapp (Wanstead, Essex), Kim Davis, Stowmarket, Suffolk).

They’ll compete against qualifiers from five other regions in the national final during England Golf Week at Woodhall Spa in August. The overall winner will be England’s female Handicap Golfer of the Year. The top nine players will play in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge, the English leg of The Challenge Tour, at Luton Hoo on 6 September.

They’ll be joined by the top nine players from the companion men’s championship, making up a total of six teams in the pro-am.

The most successful of these teams will go on to the pro-am of the British Masters, supported by Sky Sports, at Close House in Northumberland later in the same month, playing with a star of The European Tour.
