INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING

Why should you volunteer in golf?

Firstly…

Golf benefits from a huge variety of volunteer roles; from being out in the fresh air helping, to keeping the course in great condition. Volunteers also encourage people to take up golf and have a great experience, or even put a Business Plan into place. There are also a variety of Championships requiring volunteers and opportunities to support talented young players achieve their potential.

For some roles being a golfer or knowing a bit about golf helps, however there are plenty of other opportunities where other skills are much more important. For example most golf clubs now consider Marketing & Communication a high priority and people’s career experience in this area can be invaluable.

Secondly…

It’s ENJOYABLE!

We recently asked Golf Club Volunteers why they do what they do! And the top reason people are volunteering is because they enjoy it. Here are the some of the main reasons why people volunteer:

  • Enjoyment.
  • Love of Golf.
  • Want to ‘give back’ to the game.
  • Like helping to get more people playing/enjoying golf.
  • Get personal satisfaction from the achievements of the role.
  • Passionate about the golf club and the benefits it brings to people.

How to get involved

Consider your area(s) of interest and what skills/experience you have that could be valuable. Also determine how much free time you have to commit to a role and whether this is on a regular or ad hoc basis.

  • A good starting point is to get in touch with your local golf club and offer to help out.
  • Your England Golf Club Support Officer is also a good person to get in touch with and will be able to let you know about opportunities in your County and Golf Clubs looking for volunteers.
  • There are a number of volunteer roles at England Golf including:
  1. Regional Managers for National Squad Performance Programme.
  2. Refereeing and other event roles at England Golf Championships.
