A thrilling final day of the 2022 McGregor Trophy is in store with Mark Gazi and Charlie Croker tied for the lead at the end of an entertaining second round.
At the halfway stage of the event for under 16 boys at Sherwood Forest, the duo sit on seven under par and two shots clear of Frenchman Louka Morin (-5).
Gazi (pictured above) kept his spot at the top of the leaderboard as he backed up his opening tally of 67 with a second round of 68 in the hazy sunshine of the north Nottinghamshire course.
Later in the day he was joined at the summit by Croker, from Thorndon Park in Essex, as the 15-year-old produced a magical round of 65, which included seven birdies and only one dropped shot.
There will be a cut on Wednesday night with the top 45 players making it through to the final day where a further 36 holes of stroke play will take place.
16-year-old Morin (pictured below) pushed himself into contention at the top of the leaderboard with a bogey-free round of 66 which included a sensational eagle on the par five eighth.
“I felt really good today, right from the first tee. I feel like my practice and my training has gone really well and that good feeling continued out on the course.
“When I was out there today I knew when I’d hit a good shot.
“The back nine is a little bit more difficult than the front nine but I was chipping well when I didn’t make the green and my putting was strong today.
“The front nine here suits my iron game more than the back nine so I was able to reach the greens more easily in the early part of my round.
“It’s only halfway in the competition but I’m pretty happy so far – I’d be very happy with a top five finish!”
Sitting just behind Morin is Spain’s Alberto Banos Ramos (-2) with Ben Bolton and Drew Sykes a further two shots back at level par.
