A team of eight young golfers has been selected to play for England against Wales this weekend in an U16 international.
The players are: Dominic Clemons of Hertfordshire, Billy Groom of Sussex, Matthew Jackman of Lancashire, George Leigh of Cornwall, Taylor Paul of BB&O, Ben Pierleoni of Hertfordshire, Ben Schmidt of Yorkshire and Joe Sullivan of Sussex.
The match will be played at Heysham Golf Club, Lancashire, on Saturday and Sunday, 22-23 September.
Dominic Clemons, 16, (Hanbury Manor) is the Hertfordshire boys’ champions and had a top 10 finish in the English U16 McGregor Trophy.
Billy Groom, 16, (Worthing) was runner-up in the South of England boys’ championship and has had consistently high finishes this season.
Matthew Jackman, 16, (Southport & Ainsdale) made the match play stages of the British boys’ championship, had a top-10 at the U18 Carris Trophy and tied third in the Midland U16s.
George Leigh, 16, (Trevose) represented Cornwall in Boys’ County Finals and won the individual prize at qualifying for the championship. He was sixth in the McGregor Trophy.
Taylor Paul, 16, (Stoke Park) won the Midland U16 boys’ title and has followed up with a string of high finishes. Pictured top, image copyright Leaderboard Photography.
Ben Pierleoni, 16, tied second in the men’s Berkhamsted Trophy at his home club and was fourth in the North of England boys’ championship.
Ben Schmidt, 16, (Rotherham) has just won the English Boys’ County Champion of Champions. He was also runner-up in the Italian U16 boys’ amateur and the McGregor Trophy.
Joe Sullivan, 16, (Chartham Park) is the Sussex boys’ champion and has had a string of good results this season, including high finishes in the Carris and McGregor Trophies.
The team will be managed by Nick Over and coached by John Jacobs.
