England ‘played with heart’ to halve an international match against a team of French U18 girls at St Cloud, near Paris, today.
The match was a warm-up for the French Lady Junior Championship, which starts tomorrow, and the players earned the praise of Rebecca Wood, the England Golf Women’s Performance Manager.
“The players really fought it out and played with heart which was great to see,” she remarked. “We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the course is in stunning condition.”
All but one of the matches was very tight and there was some great play over the closing holes.
Gabriella Cowley finished with three birdies, holing a 35-footer on the last to win. Sammy Fuller (image © Leaderboard Photography) followed her with another grandstand finish, knocking a wood to about 5ft from the hole on the last to secure her point. Sophie Lamb played a very controlled game and managed the course very well on her way to a win. The half point was secured by Alice Hewson.
