England girls set for Portuguese challenge

Four members of the England girls’ squad will travel to take part in the Portuguese International Ladies’ Amateur Championship later this month.

Following a disrupted season in 2021, the chance to once again compete on foreign soil against the best players from around Europe is something that is eagerly anticipated by all the girls.

The following players will fly the flag for England Golf during the 72-hole stroke play event at the Montado Golf Resort near Lisbon from 26-29 January:

  • Rachel Gourley – Arcot Hall GC, Northumberland
  • Olivia Lee  (main image) – Gerrards Cross GC, Buckinghamshire
  • Patience Rhodes – Burnham and Berrow GC, Somerset
  • Lottie Woad – Farnham GC, Surrey

Due to travel restrictions, English players could not compete in the 2021 event won by France’s Lucie Malchirand.

Since the championship started in 1954 there have been four English winners.

Jeanne Bisgood won the inaugural event and her success was matched by Mickey Walker (1972), Kitrina Douglas (1983) and Bel Wardle (2018).
