At England Golf, we want more women and girls to get into golf. Only 15% of club members are female – we’re lagging far behind many European countries!
So, what are we doing about it? We’ve got great programmes to attract new players – and we’re making a lot of noise about the fabulous female side of the game.
How to Get into Golf
We know for sure that there are huge numbers of women and girls who want to play golf. And it’s so easy to get started.
Visit our Club Finder to find taster and beginner sessions near you. They’re great value group sessions, making it easy to meet other people, just like you, who’re starting the game. You’ll have fun together as you learn new skills.
Last year 40% of people taking part in Get into Golf activities were female so you’ll find plenty of like-minded company. Women-only sessions are available, as well as mixed.
Getting on the course
You’ve had some lessons, you’re practising hard …now it’s time to get playing. We know it can be daunting at first and that’s why we run Women on Par.
These are fun playing days for women beginners, designed to help build confidence, make friends – and have a laugh together. We ignore traditional scoring and ask you to complete a set of challenges instead – and we finish with a glass of fizz or juice.
Women on Par ran in eight counties during 2018. We’ll soon be announcing details of 2019 activities.
Girls Golf Rocks
Girls Golf Rocks is our great campaign to welcome girls into the game. It’s aimed at 5-18-year-olds, it’s girls-only and there’s lots of support from girls who already play.
It’s fun and friendly – and it’s a winner. During 2018 over 1600 girls had a taste of the game.
We run Girls Golf Rocks with the Golf Foundation and this year it will take place in 26 counties across England.
Connecting with clubs
We’re also working intensively with clubs across the country to inspire more women and girls to play and become members. Use our club finder to find a golf club near you and ask them how you can get started and join in.
We launched the #WhyIGolf campaign to coincide with the Women’s British Open. Our aim was to raise awareness about women and girls’ golf: the players, the career women and the volunteers.
We told the stories of some amazing people and we threw out an invitation to all to join the conversation. It was supported across the UK, travelled as far as Australia, brought a host of celebs on board and reached more than 2.5m people on Twitter, generating over 12million impressions. The crowning moment was Georgia Hall’s wonderful win in the Women’s British Open.
