Equality and Diversity
England Golf considers that everyone should play their part in making golf inclusive and aims to ensure that all people have a genuine and equal opportunity to participate in golf at all levels and in all roles.
The England Golf Equality & Diversity Policy sets out our commitment to working towards an inclusive sport within England. This is available for download on the right hand side of this page.
England Golf recommends that Counties and Clubs have an Equality & Diversity policy in place and are welcome to adopt the principles of our national policy.
Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 is intended to provide a legislative framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all.
No one can lawfully discriminate against anyone under any of the below ‘protected characteristics’.

We should emphasise that this paper is a summary of how we consider it affects golf and it should not replace legal advice tailored to your specific requirements.
It is clear that golf clubs need to be aware of the requirements of the Act and comply with any relevant sections. England Golf have a role in helping clubs to address their responsibilities and to drive the process of equity forward. Golf clubs may be challenged legally on their approach to equality and it would be wise to be able to demonstrate the club’s commitment with clear evidence.
The Equality Act 2010 can be downloaded at www.equalities.gov.uk/equality_bill.aspx
All clubs must have legally effective policies in place in order to comply with the requirements of the Act, particularly in the use of buggies. England Golf and the National Golf Clubs Advisory Association (NGCAA) have combined resources to produce guidance notes relating to golf course traffic and the usage of golf buggies. (See weblink)
The Equality Act 2010 and Age Discrimination
Discounts in relation to age are permitted within the scope of the legislation. A guide for Golf Clubs is available in the documents list at the top of this page.
