Greener Golf is an interactive website from the English Golf Union, part funded by The R&A, and developed by STRI.

Greener Golf aims to provide high quality, golf-specific, environmental advice to all English golf clubs and encourages golf clubs to form an environmental sub-committee and to generate an environmental policy document.

Case Study

Energy and Carbon

Three Energy and Carbon case studies of golf clubs with varying clubhouse and maintenance facilities and at different stages of carbon and energy management. Carbon auditing was undertaken in partnership with the English Golf Union and in each case study there were significant opportunities for cost savings and reducing emisions.

Nature conservation

Golf courses can be an integral part of rural landscapes or can offer islands of wildlife habitat in large urban areas. Golf courses cover 1% of UK land, and as 40 – 60 % of the golf course is out of play, this represents a significant land resource that can potentially be made available for wildlife protection and nature conservation.

Waste management

When something is thrown away, we lose the natural resource, energy and the time which have been used to make the product and the golf club is effectively throwing money away too. It makes sense to manage waste more effectively to save money, energy and resources.
