English student Abbey Gittings has just scored her third win on the US women’s college circuit.
The 21-year-old from Walmley, Warwickshire, came from three shots back to win the Peggy Kirk Bell invitational in Florida.
Abbey, a third year student at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, won the title with consistent play, scoring a one-over par 73 in the final round to overtake the leader. She added it to earlier rounds of 76 and 73.
Abbey’s play also helped her college to win the team prize for the fourth straight year. They’re only the second university to achieve that feat.
Abbey is a past winner of the Warwickshire championship and trained with English Women’s Golf Association squads before going to university.
Further down the field were two other English students: Jessica Bradley (Tiverton/Lynn University) tied 17th and her second round score of 71 was the joint-best of the tournament; meanwhile Lizzi Over (Forest Pines/Barry University) was 36th.
In other recent events, Jessica Schiele (Kenwick Park/Oklahoma City) was joint eighth in the Lady Jack Crown Classic in Texas. Tiffany Hewetson (East Brighton/Grand Canyon University), tied ninth in a field of 116 at the Red Rocks Invitational in Arizona.
