An outstanding second round ensured Karen Jobling moved into the match play format of the English Senior Women’s Amateur Championship as the top seed.
The Richmond golfer carded a three under par round of 70 at High Post Golf Club to go with an opening round of 76 and safely secure her passage to the last 32.
Having gone through the first 11 holes of the day level par, Jobling birdied the 12th and the 13th before a terrific eagle on the downhill 14th moved her into the outright lead in the stroke play stage.
2021 English Senior Women’s Stroke Play champion Tracey Williamson also enjoyed a good second day as her round of 72 included four birdies and ensured she became second seed for the knockout stages.
Last year’s Senior Women’s Amateur champion Fiona Edmond exited the tournament at the match play stage following rounds of 85 and 83 over the first two days while Jane Southcombe, beaten finalist in 2021, made it safely through.
In the over 60’s section of the championship and the battle for the Ann Howard Trophy, Sandy Hallet retained her day one lead as her second round of 78 saw her end the stroke play format as the top seed heading into the last 16.
Hallet finished six shots clear of nearest challengers Tracy Crew and Ingrid Long as she survived the drizzly and murky conditions in the early part of the morning to record the joint-lowest round of the day.
An intriguing knockout stage is in store with last year’s winner Sheree Dove-Wilde and runner-up Bet Sworowski making it through along with the talented Carol Wild and home favourite Dee Wood.
