England Golf is once again proud to support the Rainbow Laces campaign 2021 as part of our ongoing drive to promote accessibility and equality in the game.
The colourful Rainbow Laces campaign brings visibility for LGBTQ+ people, offers the opportunity to raise awareness of their experiences and allows others to show support for the value of inclusivity.
More than a million people have laced up, and two thirds of sport fans who have seen the campaign believe they have a responsibility to stand in solidarity for LGBTQ+ fans of the teams and sports they follow.
For this year’s campaign, and Rainbow Laces Day which falls tomorrow, we are calling on golfers and golf clubs to get involved by lacing up in order to show that golf is inclusive.
Tag in England Golf to your social media posts and we will look to share as many as possible on our own channels.
Sport and physical activity can bring so many benefits to our lives – not just in terms of our wellbeing, but also in the ways they bring people together.
People from all walks of life can gain a sense of belonging and community through shared passion. LGBTQ+ people deserve to be a part of this.
At England Golf, we recognise that people are able to enjoy their life when they are their authentic self. This is what the Rainbow Laces campaign is all about.
It’s the chance to show that whatever your identity or background, you are welcome within the game.
LGBTQ+ people can feel unwelcome in sport due to discrimination that they either suffer directly or that they have seen others subjected to.
Our sport is not perfect and it is only by taking part in Rainbow Laces and starting conversations that we can show that our game is not defined by these incidents and that the game is for everyone.
At England Golf we know that there is work to do to encourage more LGBTQ+ people to choose to be active.
As the national governing body we want to ensure that the sport we are passionate about can be a choice for anyone and become everyone’s game.
Why don’t you tag England Golf when you share photos of you on the course or practising while displaying your rainbow laces? They can be on your golf bag or trolley as well as your shoes!
Look out for the clubs who have raised an England Golf rainbow flag on their greens whilst you’re out playing.
If you are a club and want to back everyone in your golfing community, then speak to your club support officer (CSO) about adopting our updated Equality and Diversity Policy as your commitment this Rainbow Laces Day.
