Middlesex golfers Paul Dimmer and Sian Whitbread have warmed up for the amateur final at the European Tour’s GolfSixes with an outing with England stars Tom Lewis and Paul Waring.
They played with them in the pro-am ahead of the fun and fast GolfSixes Tour event which gets underway today at Cascais in Portugal.
“We’ve had an impressive experience so far,” said Dimmer, who is captain at Haste Hill Golf Club in Middlesex, where Sian is also a member.
“Tom and Paul were just lovely to play with, two incredibly passionate, engaging men. It was just great fun.”
Today, Dimmer and Whitbread will be watching the Tour players in the six-hole event and preparing for their own final tomorrow. They’ll be competing against amateurs from a number of other European countries which, like England, have embraced the format at grassroots level.
Dimmer and Whitbread earned their place at Cascais when they won England Golf’s GolfSixes tournament for club members, held at the Centurion Club in Hertfordshire.
“It’s been a great journey so far,” said Dimmer. “Playing with the pros has given us a bit of an insight and now it’s exciting to play our own final. It’s a great privilege, we’re looking forward to it immensely and hopefully we can do England proud. We will do our best!”
