What your England Golf membership does for you

The English Golf Union merged with the English Women's Golf Association on 1st January 2012 to form England Golf, the governing body for all amateur golf in England. We represent around 665,000 members in over 1900 clubs.

Members’ affiliation fees help to develop, promote and administer the game of golf. The subscription for the 2019 affiliation year will be £9.00. All members also pay a county affiliation fee. There is no longer a fee payable for lady members to the Ladies’ Golf Union for the 2018 year onwards due to its merger with the R&A.

Our services to members include:

  • We organise national championships for all age groups and a wide range of handicap competitions, particularly for women golfers.
  • We coach and nurture young talent and are proud of such players such as Danny Willett, Charley Hull, Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Luke Donald, Melissa Reid and Jodi Ewart who have benefited from our resources.
  • We invest in England’s golf courses. In recent years we have invested over £400,000 in greenkeeper training.
  • We offer wide-ranging support services to golf clubs.
  • We administer the CONGU handicapping system in England.
  • We offer a range of discounts and benefits for all members of English golf clubs through the England Golf Handicap and Benefits programme including accessing your offical handicap online and the option to print your CDH card.
  • We endorse and contribute to National Club Golfer and Lady Golfer, free magazines which are distributed to every club in England. We produce  Men's and Women's monthly E-newsletters, distributed to members of The England Golf Member Benefits programme.
  • We run and maintain the England Golf website, www.englandgolf.org which is a resource centre for golfers, golf clubs and counties.
  • We answer hundreds of questions each day, by letter, email and telephone, from golfers and golf clubs who seek help, advice and information.
  • Our development team works to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to start and stay in golf.
  • We speak with one voice for the game of golf in England and are recognised as the governing body by the Government, the Sports Council, SportEngland and the National Lottery.
  • We administer the England Golf Trust, our charity for junior golf.
  • We manage the National Golf Centre and Training Academy at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.
