Matty Lamb (Hexham, Northumberland) and Jamie Li (Bath, Somerset), two youngsters recently capped at boy level, have been selected to represent England Golf in the Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida on 28th – 31st August.
Both players stepped up from under 16 level to play a part in England’s winning team in the Boys Home Internationals at Western Gailes in Scotland.
Lamb (image copyright Leaderboard Photogrpahy), 16, a former winner of the Scottish under 14 Championship and the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and a runner-up in the English Boys under 14 Championship, was capped against the other three Home countries in last year’s under 16 internationals.
This year, he has finished second in the Fairhaven Trophy, equal fourth in the English Boys under 16 Championship for the McGregor Trophy, and fifth in the McEvoy Trophy. He also finished ninth on his previous overseas trip to the European Young Masters.
Li, 17, lost a playoff for the English Boys under 18 Championship, the Carris Trophy, last year at West Lancs before being capped in the under 16 internationals against Wales and Scotland. After finishing tied fourth in last autumn’s Daily Telegraph Junior Championship, he finished equal sixth in this year’s McEvoy Trophy and tied seventh in the Fairhaven Trophy.
The Junior Players Championship is contested over 54 holes of stroke play.
