International Women’s Day #BreakTheBias

International Women’s Day is a chance to celebrate – on a global scale – all the notable and inspirational stories marking the achievements of women.

Of course, in the world of golf, these achievements are many and varied.

They could relate to a superstar of the game, a major champion such as England’s Georgia Hall, or a team that brings success in the style of Europe’s Solheim Cup winners.

But equally, International Women’s Day is an opportunity to talk about the unsung heroes of the game at club and amateur level, those coaching at grassroots facilities, or working behind the scenes to help others enjoy the game.

Staged annually on 8 March, International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • celebrate women’s achievements
  • raise awareness about women’s equality
  • lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • fundraise for female-focused charities

For 2022, the theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias.

How can you, your club or your county get involved and help to #BreakTheBias?

Here are some suggestions for the day itself or for a time that suits you and your lifestyle:

  • Plan an International Women’s Day activity, for example, a Taster Day, Open Day or an event to help encourage women to come and join in the game of golf
  • Share your #BreakTheBias story or activity on social media and tag @EnglandGolf for the chance to be featured across our social channels
  • Tune in to episode 15 of the England Golf Podcast, featuring guest Julia Regis and share the link with friends or fellow members. Julia is a part of the Black British Golfers’ community and is playing her part to promote golf as a game for everyone.
  • Register for our successful ‘What Women Want… From a Golf Experience’ webinar. Hear from women who are successfully recruiting new female members into their clubs and listen as they share insights on how they have achieved this. (Please note, this is a pre-recorded webinar).
  • Download a selfie card and write your own pledge about how you are going to #BreakTheBias. Take a selfie and post on your social media and tag @EnglandGolf and use the #BreakTheBias and we will reshare! Please send your images making the “X” pose for #BreakTheBias to pr@englandgolf.org before Tuesday 8th March for the chance to be featured across our social channels.
  • Don’t have access to a printer? Why don’t you send us a video about how you are going to #BreakTheBias and post it on your social media? Tag us in by using @EnglandGolf. Don’t forget the all-important campaign hashtag #BreakTheBias
  • Check out @Golf_interrupted, who will be taking over our Instagram on Tuesday 8th March, sharing her views and covering International Women’s Day.
