There’s a strong international flavour to the leaderboard at the Reid Trophy at Reading Golf Club, with boys from five countries in the top ten.
Alaric Mercie de Soultrait of France leads the way on three-under par 67 and is followed by a closely packed group.
Tom Haberer of Germany, Angel Ayora and Jose Maria Rozas Fernandez of Spain and Dosiere Marius of France share second place on two-under.
A shot further back is group of four which includes the leading English player, Rick Zhou of South Winchester, together with players from Italy and France.
Zhou, 13, commented: “I’m pleased, it’s one of the best rounds I’ve had so far this summer. My driving was good and I managed to get some shots near the pin and hole them.”
Among the other good scores by English contenders was the level par round of Charles Reynolds, (Sundridge Park), and the 71s of Luke Perkins (Frilford heath), Joshua Berry (Doncaster) and Manato Nakatani (Hendon).
