There’s a strong international flavour at the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage of the English girls’ championship at East Devon Golf Club.
Germany’s Celina Rose Sattelkau leads the way on two-under par. She’s two clear of Italy’s Maria Vittoria Corbi, while Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley and Finland’s Kerttu Hiltunen are among five players on one-over.
The home challenge also starts there with Daisy Kennedy, pictured, (Stoke Park) and Amy Taylor (Bawburgh) in the group on one-over.
Two shots further back are five English players: Sophie Johnson (Enville), Mimi Rhodes (Burnham & Berrow), Rafiah Banday (Royal Mid Surrey), Amelia Williamson (Royal Cromer) and Ana Dawson (Peel).
The course creates up and down rounds from some of the players, and it’s not uncommon to find a mix of eagle, birdies and double bogeys – or worse. But Sattlekau didn’t experience the dramatic extremes, making her way to the turn in one-over and coming home in three-under.
The players are among the top 40 and ties who qualify for tomorrow’s final 36 holes. A total of 49 players made it through.
