Luke Johnson (King’s Lynn, Norfolk), winner of two titles already this season, has been selected along with fellow England ‘A’ squad members Daniel Brown (Bedale, Yorkshire) and Adam Chapman (Windermere, Cumbria) to represent England Golf in the Chiberta Grand Prix on 3rd – 6th July and in the Biarritz Cup, on 10th – 13th July.
Johnson, 22, currently lies fourth on the Titleist/FootJoy England Golf men’s Order of Merit following his victories in the Berkhamsted Trophy and the West of England Stroke Play Championship. It will be the first time the Norfolk county player has represented England Golf overseas.
Brown, 19, is a boy international, a former Yorkshire champion and winner of all six of his games when Yorkshire won the Boys County Championship in 2012. This year, he finished equal fifth in the Duncan Putter, third in the Hampshire Hog and reached the quarter finals of last week’s Amateur Championship in Ireland. It will also be his maiden foreign assignment with England Golf.
Chapman (pictured, image copyright Leaderboard Photography), 19, also a boy cap, reached the last 16 of the Amateur Championship. He is enjoying a successful season, having finished third in the Duncan Putter, sixth in the Welsh Open Stroke Play and equal seventh in the Hampshire Hog. Last year, when he made his England debut, he finished runner-up in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and in the Junior County Champions Tournament.
The Chiberta Grand Prix is medal stroke play over 72 holes with a halfway cut. There is also a team event over the first two days, the best two of the three cards to count. The Biarritz Cup is a similar competition but the team event is for pairs with both scores to count.
