Men and women club golfers from all over England will Chase Their Dream next week, aiming to set up a pro-am date with a top European Tour player.
The 121 players will head to Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire for the national finals of the Bridgestone Chase Your Dream Trophy, run in partnership with England Golf.
It could be their passport to a place in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge – and to teeing up with a star of the European Tour in the pro-am of the British Masters, supported by Sky Sports, at Close House in Northumberland.
The players have all kept their dream alive through club and regional qualifying rounds. The next step is the national finals which will be played as part of England Golf Week, with the men’s event taking place on Tuesday, 15 August, on the Bracken course and the women playing on Friday, 18 August, on the Hotchkin.
The individual winners will be the country’s Handicap Golfers of the Year and the top nine players in each final will play in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge, the English leg of the Challenge Tour, at Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire, on Wednesday, 6 September.
The 18 players will make up six teams and the most successful of those will go forward to the British Masters pro-am on Wednesday 27 September.
Qualifiers for the national finals include Richard McCrae from Spalding Golf Club in Lincolnshire who remarked: “I’ve never played Woodhall Spa before and it’s a big opportunity. It would be great to play at the British Masters – Bridgestone really have given us a chance in a lifetime.”
Sally Drawbridge, from Highwoods Golf Club, Sussex, commented: “I’m just enjoying my golf at the moment and I love competitive sport. I’m really excited now to play Woodhall Spa, but know I’ll have to continue my tactical game.”
The Bridgestone Chase your Dream Trophy is an annual event open to members of England Golf’s 1,900 affiliated clubs and features separate competitions for men and women.
Entries will open in the autumn to players who have been successful in 2017 club competitions and are eligible for the regional finals.
