England’s under 16 squad hoping to reign in Spain
Eight of the brightest young talents on the England Golf player pathway will get a chance to shine against Spain later this month when the annual under 16 challenge match makes a welcome return to the calendar.
The England squad, comprising of four boys and four girls, will head to the National Golf Centre in Madrid on 21/22 May for what is sure to be an exciting and keenly contested match after an enforced two-year absence due to Covid restrictions.
Since the mixed two-day competition was introduced in 2014, Spain have held the upper hand winning on five of the six occasions including last time out at Woodhall Spa in 2019.
England tasted victory in 2017 at Preston Golf Club and the team will look to repeat that feat while continuing their golfing education on Spanish soil.
The squad is as follows:
BOYS
Seb Desoisa – Alcaidesa Links, Spain
Monty Holcombe – Walton Heath, Surrey
Kris Kim – Walton Heath, Surrey
Oscar Lent – Walton Heath, Surrey
GIRLS
Sadie Adams – Royal Birkdale, Lancashire
Matilde Santilli – Foxhills, Surrey
Chloe Tarbard (pictured below) – Royal Norwich, Norfolk
Imogen Williamson – Delamere Forest, Cheshire
Out of the eight juniors selected, only three players have featured for England before at this level.
Williamson helped the England under 16 girls beat Switzerland last year in a match at Heswall.
Meanwhile, Kim and Desoisa (main image) were part of an impressive win for the under 16 boys against their counterparts from Wales at Trentham in September.
