The trio of Gemma Clews, Bel Wardle and Olivia Winning will represent England in the Nations Cup event at the Portuguese women’s amateur championship which starts tomorrow at Montado Golf.
The team event is played simultaneously with the first 54 holes of the championship, with the best two scores counting in each round.
Gemma Clews, 22, (Delamere Forest, Cheshire) had a string of high finishes last season, helped England win the women’s Home Internationals and was third on the England Golf Women’s Order of Merit. Bel Wardle, 17, (Prestbury, Cheshire) was runner up in the 2016 British girls’ championship and was eighth in the World junior girls’ championship. She tied first in the Royal Birkdale Scratch Trophy and was third on the England Golf Girls’ Order of Merit.
Olivia Winning, 21, (Rotherham, Yorkshire) won the Helen Holm Scottish stroke play for the second time last year and was part of England’s European Championship winning team. She also helped England win the Home Internationals.
