England seniors on a roll against the Swiss
England senior men are two steps away from regaining the European Senior Men’s Team Championship after romping into the semi-finals at Sierra Golf Club in Poland.
Richard Palmer’s new-look squad booked their place in the last four with a 5-0 quarter final victory over Switzerland after qualifying from the 36-hole stroke play in second place behind Sweden.
With each match decided over one foursomes contest and four singles, England completed a clean sweep with only one game going to the final green.
Alan Mew and Tony McLure won the foursomes 3 and 2 over Lionel Berruti and Pascal Carantola before the afternoon singles began with a 2 and 1 win for English senior champion Stephen East over Yves Robyr.
Richard Latham (Image © Leaderboard Photography) then beat Bernard Stutz 3 and 2 before Andrew Stracey wrapped up a similar victory against Marcel Grass.
The closest game saw new senior cap Clive Jones complete the one-sided victory with a 1 hole win over Yves Hofstetter.
England face a tougher test tomorrow when they face Ireland in the semi-finals while Sweden meet Scotland.
