England displayed their ability to bounce back by beating Scotland 6-3 on the opening day of the Seniors Home Internationals at Southerndown in Wales.
The Scots edged ahead 2-1 in the morning foursomes with only Tyrone Carter and Chris Reynolds gaining a point for England with a final green victory over Derek Murphy and Gordon MacDonald.
The other two games went to the Scots as Ian Brotherston and Fraser McCluskey beat John Ambridge and new cap Doug Cameron 2 and 1 while John Fraser and David Gardner secured the same scoreline over Charles Banks and Andrew Stracey.
But it was a different story in the singles with only Stracey tasting defeat by 1 hole against Gardner.
Ambridge secured a solid 3 and 2 win over Brotherston, while Cameron gained his first international point by 2 and 1 over Fraser.
Carter, who was unbeaten for England in the recent European Men’s Team Championships in Portugal, maintained his winning run with a 1 hole victory over Lindsay Blair, while Banks and Les Bruckner, another new cap, gained 4 and 3 wins over McCluskey and Murphy respectively.
